Looks innocent, doesn't it? Hidden beneath this little well cap, however, is a hole that is now 1,260 feet deep and has been through 2 hydrofracture attempts...and yet doesn't yield much water. We are measuring daily the rate at which the water is filling up the well (via the precise scientific method of dropping a stone down the hole and counting the seconds until we hear a splash) and it's only averaging about 100 gallons a day. Not good. We will give it some time, but ultimately may have a specialist from Massachusetts come in and "zone frac"...whatever that means. All we know is that the starting price is $6,000 and goes up from there. Crap. Oops, don't crap - we can't flush the damn toilet because there's no water.
Actually, there are other options involving cisterns and "harvesting" water from the well at times when we're n
ot using it, so we're not out of ideas yet. Updates to follow...
On the bright side, the framing has been percolating right along without incident and is coming together nicely. Mother Nature has been nice to us over the past few days with no snow or ice, which is a good thing since a certain guy in the family accidentally rammed a tractor tire chain into our snowblower over the weekend and bent it out of commission (OK, I sound bitter but it really was just an accident). We should have the tractor back on Thursday with fixed snowblower and new sander, and then we'll be in business!
